Why Advocacy?

___________________________________

You may have heard the old adage, "Give a man a fish, he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish, he eats for a lifetime." But what if the man (or more likely the woman or child) can't access the water in order to fish because of cultural laws, or conflict in their country? Even if they learn how to fish, they can't access the water.

That's where our Advocacy team comes in: making sure that the legislation and funding is there in the first place so that the rest of the work can happen!

World Vision's "3 Main Things"

World's Vision's goal is that people would be lifted out of poverty for good. In order to do that, World Vision looks at the bigger picture of poverty: Emergency Relief (give a man a fish, Development (teach a man to fish), and Advocacy (make sure the water cab be accessed in the first place). You need all three in order for community resiliency to be achieved.

How We Advocate

Our advocacy is rooted in faith, relationships, and respect. We pray, lift up the voices of people experiencing poverty, and share their stories with leaders who can help create change. We approach elected officials as partners, building relationships, finding common ground, and encouraging them to act with justice, compassion, and courage.
